Student Code of Conduct

Student Code of Conduct at Chancellors Sixth Form believe in encouraging our students to be mature, respectable, young adults.

We strive to promote an environment and culture of ‘expectations’ rather than having a long list of rules and ‘you must not’ nevertheless, it is important that we set the standards of expectation through a student code of conduct:

  1. Show consideration and respect for others and for the school and sixth form environment.
  2. Talk to all students, staff, visitors and members of the local community with respect and behave at all times, in an appropriate and courteous manner. Use language in written and verbal communications that is polite and respectful.
  3. Be positive advocates and ambassadors of the school and sixth form, both onsite and off. Instances of misconduct off the sixth form site on a sixth form activity or elsewhere, which brings discredit upon the sixth form or school may be treated as it they had taken place on the school site; this also applies to behaviour on social media.
  4. Adhere to the school policies and be aware of the level of responsibility and accountability.
  5. Behave in a courteous and honest way when using social media, respecting the privacy and feeling of others at all times; avoiding the use of names, contact details or images of other students, staff or visitors without their prior permission.
  6. Be aware of meeting the legal obligations to the use of online and social media.
  7. Dress in an appropriate manner, in line with the sixth form dress code.
  8. Use mobile and digital devices in line with policy.
  9. Smoking, e-cigarettes and vapes are not permitted anywhere on the school and sixth form site, including personal cars.
  10. Be aware that equipment belonging to the school or sixth form must not be removed from the school site. Damage to property will be recovered when intentional, malicious or due to reckless behaviour.
  11. Bring in your own property at their own risk.
  12. Do not have in possession; weapons or anything that can be used as an offensive weapon, alcohol, controlled (illegal) substances. Students are reminded that possession of these items could be reported to the police.
  13. Food delivered to the school or to bring fast-food (i.e., McDonalds, Nando’s, etc.) onto the school site, including the sixth form building is not permitted. This is due to promoting a healthy lifestyle and nutrition.
  14. Participate actively and to the best of their ability in lessons and in the general life of the sixth form.
  15. Attend punctually and attend all required activities including enrichment, supported learning sessions and compulsory workshops.
  16. Complete assignments and independent study to the best of your ability and ensure that they are submitted as requested, by the stated deadlines.
  17. Do no cause a distraction to others or disrupt the teaching and learning of the school and sixth form.
  18. Adhere to the attendance policy of the sixth form including not taking personal appointments, paid work, or holiday during term times.
  19. Seek permission from the Head of Sixth Form before making use of any school or sixth form logo or any other publicity material.
  20. Seek permission from the Head of Sixth Form before broadcasting or publishing information about the sixth form or school, or members of the school and sixth form community. This also includes social media.
  21. Abide by all school and sixth form policies and expectations including those relating to: - Equality, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging - Health & Safety - Anti-Bullying - Acceptable Use - Assessment, Exams and Plagiarism (including exam board guidance and regulations relating to AI
  22. The expectation will always be that you want to be in the Sixth Form. This should not be driven by the desire to see this as an opportunity to see your friends and socialise. We want students to want to be here, feel content and having friendship group’s helps with this, however, the primary and most important reason to be at Chancellors Sixth Form is to study and get your qualifications.
  23. Your primary driver must be studying the subjects you want to in an environment which supports your aspirations.
  24. Sixth Form has certain expectation and standards should these not fit with your thinking there are plenty of other colleges and sixth forms available in this area for you to attend. While we would be sorry that you want to leave – we strive to talk and discuss students desire to succeed - engage in academic discussion and support students in the very best way we can. We do not want to be engaging in distractions such as dealing with poor behaviour and poor attitudes.
  25. Expectations on you are that you conduct yourselves as ROLE MODELS for lower school students to look up to.
  26. This does mean that you MUST conduct yourself in such a way that you set an example at all times. So think about your behaviour when walking around the school.
  27. Be to lesson on time.
  28. Be in school on time.
  29. Be prepared for your lessons.
  30. Bring the correct equipment to every lesson.
  31. Bring with you the right attitude for learning.
  32. It is important that you exhibit a positive mind set and should you have issues you ask for support and guidance. This means essentially that you look at your workload and organise yourself so that you complete your work in an organised and planned way.
  33. Last minute / rushed work is a sign of a poor sixth former. You made a decision to study the subjects that you wanted to at A level- engagement in them is important, you will get out what you put in.
  34. On the School website in the Sixth Form section is some excellent guidance on how to help yourself be an independent student.
  35. The expectation is that you organise appointments outside of school time. If an appointment takes place in school time it should only be as a result of you being given the appointment and not you organising one.
  36. Driving lessons are for most students important but must never be organised in school time.
  37. Paid employment must never impact upon your studies. A maximum of 10 hours a week is recommended and these hours are always out of school hours. You never leave school early or arrive late to facilitate paid work.
  38. If you are away due to illness you email your subject staff (Ideally on the day or as soon as possible) and ask for the classwork etc.
  39. Make sure that your parent(s) email /call the school to inform the school of your absences. The same applies if you are running late- a phone call / email from your parents to school is expected.

If you arrive late and have missed a lesson you MUST take responsibility for contacting the teacher and getting the work that was covered in class. DO NOT simply take the notes from the lesson from another student.
