The National Students Art Exhibition 2013
July 18, 2013
By Mr T Price, Head of Art
The Art Department has once again been successful in getting work produced by its students accepted for The National Students Art Exhibition. The hard working students were once again Sam Burke (Year 13) and for the first time ever a Mount Grace student Rachel Hinman (Year 12) who had two different pieces of work accepted.

This exhibition is currently taking place at The Mall Galleries, London, from 9 - 13 July 2013 so if you are in the area of Piccadilly Circus why not pop in and take a look? The opening ceremony took place yesterday afternoon followed by a press preview in the evening.

Before the preview the President selected a number of artists who will become RBA Scholars and they will be invited to exhibit their work in the Annual RBA Exhibition in March 2014 alongside some of the best artists in the country.

It was announced during the opening speeches that Sam, for the second year running has had his work chosen for this prestigeous event.

This year his work was entitled 'Ketchup' which consists of a still life group of condiments painted in the style of the Photo-Realists. The President of the RBA introduced Sam to the head of a London restaurant chain who was interested in commissioning Sam to paint a series of similar paintings for each of his restaurants. Sam is obviously very keen to do this as it would help in spreading his growing reputation.

Rachel's work on the other hand is completely different and shows a portrait of her Nan with the title 'Dementia' and another of a small child. Rachel was interviewed about her reaction to having her work accepted and this can be seen here. The event was well attended and the students concerned were extremely proud of their achievements as were the staff who were there.
