Sports Relief
March 26, 2014
By Rifat Alam, Sixth Form Student
On Friday 21st March 2014 Chancellor's School participated in Sports Relief day where the students dressed up as sports people for a small donation of £2 to the charity.

Various sporting activities took place throughout the day to raise money for the charity. A large number of students ran one mile around the field throughout the day which also included pushing Chris Prince's car for one mile which was completed in 7 minutes! A total of 205 miles was ran altogether. Also a staggering 12000 reps were completed on the rowing machine.

The day before, sixth formers participated in charity matches which included boys vs. girls netball match and a year 12 vs. year 13 football match. Of course the boys annihilated the girls in the netball match and the year 13s beat the year 12s in the fiercely contested football match. An outstanding £2000 was made which smashed last year's record.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that donated to this worthy cause.
Trussell Trust Foodbank - Feeding Thy Neighbour
March 26, 2014
By Mr D. Hopkin, Assistant Headteacher
Chancellor's School has just begun a foodbank collection drive. This initiative has been launched in assemblies, highlighting the need for food donations to help those in our local community.

We are asking for packets and tins of food to donate to The Trussell Trust. "The Trussell Trust is a Christian charity that does not affiliate itself with any political party and receives no government funding. We are non-judgemental and inclusive, providing assistance to people of all backgrounds and all faiths or none who are found to be in genuine need." This charity has centres in Hatfield and Potters Bar.

Students have been handed a flyer with a suggested shopping list of the food stuffs that the Trussell Trust would like. This flyer is available on the school's website. Please do talk to your family about this opportunity to help our neighbours, and all donations a very gratefully received. Thank you.
Year 7 Rugby team win the Herts Trophy tournament
March 21, 2014
By Mr D Welch
On Friday 21st March the Year 7 rugby team played in the finals of the Hertfordshire Schools Trophy tournament at St Albans Boys' School. The invitation to the event was a result of their very successful season in the league having played four and won four games, therefore finishing top of their division.

At the tournament finals, Chancellor's played schools who won their respec-tive divisions within the county in both the group stages and finals. Four games in total were played at the tournament and Chancellor's were crowned county champions after winning both of their group games, the semi-finals and the final, an amazing achievement.

The team played some excellent rugby and should be commended on their teamwork and dedication. Every player in the squad played their part in beating some high quality opponents.

Supporters and staff from a number of other schools commented on Chancellor's sportsmanlike performances on the pitch and their exemplary behaviour off it. The team did themselves and the school proud and were deserved winners. Throughout the season the team have demon-strated a superb willingness to learn and develop their skills and under-standing of the game. This was evident in the final in which they comfortably beat strong opposition with free flowing, structured running rugby.

Members of the winning squad were; Jay White, Natwange Chapeshammano, George Riches, Finlay Titchmarsh, Colby Lawson, Jonathan Palmer, Owen Millard, Josh Over, Sam Putman, Kelsey Clifford, Antonio Mendez-Hasani, Lewis Lake, Oliver Jeffery, James Pinto, Aaron Mays, Ben Cooper, Austen Hayes & Dennis Ruschkin.

Yesterday we spent the day in Cologne. The braver students climbed to the top of the cathedral. This was followed by a visit to the chocolate museum, where the students enjoyed chocolate sampling, and bought numerous presents.

Author visits Library to celebrate World Book Day
March 07, 2014
By Dr K. Pammenter
To celebrate World Book Day, we have had an author visit our library this week. Sarah Crossan, author of The Weight of Water, Breathe, and Resist, gave an entertaining, insightful, and inspiring talk and spent time chatting with students and autographing her books.

Some of our students also had the opportunity to formally interview Sarah and proved to be challenging and informative interviewers, whom Sarah highly praised for their planning and delivery.

We are celebrating World Book Day over the next few weeks in the library with our 'Blind Date with a Book' promotion. Books have been wrapped and decorated by our year 7 and 8 students. Students will not find out what book they have for their blind date until they get home. The idea is to get students out of their comfort zone and to try a book they may not have picked for themselves. Students will literally be unable to judge a book by its cover! When they return the book and complete the quiz, students will receive a small chocolate and go in the draw to win a bouquet of chocolates!

Closing date for students to enter the main prize draw is Tuesday 1st April.

This year Shrove Tuesday landed on the 4th March and so the sixth form decided to celebrate this occasion by holding a pancake sale at lunchtime.

Hundreds of students flocked outside the B block doors patiently waiting for the team of sixth formers to make them their pancakes. Pancake critic Tino Madziya stated "the pancakes were absolutely delicious, but I think I had a few too many!".
